February Updates for iPower Fitness

Quick Updates for February:

-- Physio Fitness Underway, find out how this great program will only benefit you!

-- Valentines Special workout tomorrow

-- Later start for Zumba class this Wed only

-- You tube video exercise demos -- my workout demo's "in HD" video!

I’m excited to announce a successful first week of physio fitness and physiotherapy assessments.

Registered Physiotherapist Sabrina Chow, is a caring individual, thoroughly assessing each client and immediately prescribing corrective exercise techniques and stretches that the client could implement right away. We’ll be working together to provide a full range of healing, corrective exercise and fitness to help you meet your fitness goals – no matter what you’re challenges are.

Most of us are battling ailments, injuries and pain that all too often inhibit us from performing and staying with an exercise program. What we need to learn, is absolutely care for and treat our condition, while having the ability to live life to the fullest and at our optimum health.

Some injuries take longer to heal than others, some require more treatment than others, but for the most we are able to still do other exercise routines and programs to work around the injury. If you know how to do this – work around your injury – you will be unstoppable in your quest for health, wellness and complete vitality!

Partnering with Physiosquad will give us the ability to care for your injury, speed up the healing process, all the while keeping you on the fitness track!

You can only benefit by taking part in this program, as most health plans will reimburse some or all of the costs for this program!! Yes it is covered under your physiotherapy plan.

Sabrina is here every Thursday evening (to start) so please contact me NOW to book your initial assessment or for more information, on how this can work for you!

So if you are suffering from:

PAIN: back, knee, shoulder, hip

LIMITED RANGE OF MOVEMENT: if you find that you have difficulty moving any part of your body

WEAKNESS: especially core weaknesses also resulting in potentially dangerous instability (lack of balance).

POSTURAL ISSUES: Postural issues can result in underlying or future injuries.
WEAKNESS: especially core weaknesses also resulting in potentially dangerous instability (lack of balance).
If you are currently under going post- rehabilitation or post- surgery, or have any other muscular – skeletal concerns… Call me to book your assessment now or for more info!

iPower Fitness and PhysioSquad

Continuing the journey to health and wellness, we've launched an exciting partnership with PhysioSquad - physiotherapy services

"Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it."
Plato

iPower Fitness is proud to announce an exciting partnership with PhysioSquad - physiotherapy services. This is the beginning of iPower Fitness dedication to providing our clients with a full range of health and wellness services.

"Despite the fact that most physicians receive no training in exercise prescription or the therapeutic uses of exercise," says Dr. Neda Amani, a Toronto physician in Jan. 2010 Fitness Business Canada magazine, "patients are increasingly looking to their trusted primary care physicians for lifestyle counselling. Having seen the many positive results of such an intervention firsthand, I now recommend exercise as the first line of treatment for more than 50% of the most common conditions I see in my clinical practice."

The same article states, "The fitness industry is uniquely positioned to collaborate with healthcare practitioners to develop prevention and rehab programs that would meet the huge demand for services that prolong healthy lifestyles."

Some of my personal clients know this firsthand that we're willing to reach out and work in tandem with your healthcare practictioner, whether it be your family doctor, naturopathic doctor, chiropracter or physiotherapist in order to ensure progressive exercise designed to meet your specific conditions.

Our partnership with Physiosquad helps you achieve the most enjoyable, productive physical condition possible. Whether you come to us because of a work-related injury, a chronic disorder such as arthritis, chronic pain, or an injury related to your sports or exercise, whatever your needs… we can help. We are a team of professionals dedicated to working with you and your physician to make your life better.

Our goal is to help pinpoint the best approach to your condition and create a treatment plan to help you achieve optimum performance. We look for every opportunity to help you use your body’s own mechanisms for recovery and for building strength. We want to help you create a lifestyle that prevents, reduces or eliminates the need for drugs or surgeries, whenever practical, in the treatment of the problem that brings you to us.

You may qualify for our new "Proactive PT Program"!! Please call Ivy NOW to book your assessment.

"...I recommend exercise as a key component to a healthy lifestyle for many of my patients. Unfortunately, I lacked the time to fully implement a conservative and effective exercise prescription for those who need it. This all changed after getting to know Ivy. This certainly helped me help my patients achieve their individual health goals guidance.

I continue to recommend Ivy to my patients who wanted to begin a comprehensive exercising program or require rehabilitation for an injury.." Dr. Gold D.C, Clinic Director at Family Chiropractic and Sports Care Centre

iPower Fitness New Years Newsletter

Happy New Year! I hope you had a restful holiday -- full of fun,
friendship and family.

Now back to serious business right?

I've been asked time and again:

"What's with the New Year's resolution?"

"Whats with the "Monday diets?"

"Why are gyms so busy on Mondays?".

I have to agree why wait until New Years to take your health seriously and
why wait for the Monday blues??

But since I myself over indulged in cake and wine, and yes only "worked
out" twice (one was tumbling while snowboarding and the other skating at
Toronto city hall on a packed rink).

I too have now jumped on the New Years bandwagon - Thank God for New Years
to get me back on track!

Here's whats in this month's newsletter:

1. New **Cardio-Blast** classes at the Studio (INCLUDED with all training
packages)

2. The Truth About New Years

3. Dr. OZ Seven Deadly Sins

The Truth About New Years

Oh the New Year, what does it mean for you? For me, it’s a time where
I look back and see what changes I’ve done in the past year. I can
certainly attest to how much things can change, how much you can overcome
and how much you can achieve in a matter of 12 months.
Sometimes it’s great to let “old acquaintance be forgot”, whether
it’s the person that broke your heart, that debt you have, the habit you
never dropped or perhaps the workouts you never got to.
When I used to work at the gym all the trainers and gym employees
marveled at how PACKED the gym was in January. Some would chuckle and say,
“Just wait until February”. Even though deep down we wished the gym
would always be this energetic but we knew the unfortunate truth was that
when February rolled around the attendance would plummet. And it does,
year after year.
So what’s it going to take for you to stick to your New Year
resolution? Can you keep the New Years high? Most of us would need more
than the month of January to get the body you want.
If you have:
- 20lbs to lose you’re looking at 3 months
- 40 lbs give yourself 6 months
- More than that you’ll need to stay on your program – steady
– for a year.

DR. OZ's Seven Deadly Sins

Dr. Oz, calls them 7 deadly sins, that are shaving years OFF your life.

Here's what they are and I've added some of my personal experience and
expertise.

1. Skipping Stretching. This was a pleasant surprise to me, but not at
all a shocker. I often start my day with about 10 minutes of meditative
breathing (no - hitting the snooze button and snoozing doesn't count) I
tend to be one to bound out of bed, once I finally roll out of it. But
stretching first thing in the morning gets your blood flowing, your muscles
prepared, and releases fluid into your perhaps stiff joints. Its the
perfect start to your day, add some deep breathing exercises, your mind
will quiet and prepare for your busy day.

The Truth About New Years

The Truth about New Years

Oh the New Year, what does it mean for you? For me, it’s a time where I look back and see what changes I’ve done in the past year. I can certainly attest to how much things can change, how much you can overcome and how much you can achieve in a matter of 12 months.

Sometimes it’s great to let “old acquaintance be forgot”, whether it’s the person that broke your heart, that debt you have, the habit you never dropped or perhaps the workouts you never got to.

When I used to work at the gym all the trainers and gym employees marveled at how PACKED the gym was in January. Some would chuckle and say, “Just wait until February”. Even though deep down we wished the gym would always be this energetic but we knew the unfortunate truth was that when February rolled around the attendance would plummet. And it does, year after year.

So what’s it going to take for you to stick to your New Year resolution? Can you keep the New Years high? Most of us would need more than the month of January to get the body you want.

If you have:
- 20lbs to lose you’re looking at 3 months
- 40 lbs give yourself 6 months
- More than that you’ll need to stay on your program – steady – for a year.

Maybe you don’t need weight loss and are just looking to tone up, well in that case you’ll still need minimum 6 weeks – 3 months, of a dedicated nutrition and workout plan to shape and sculpt out a toned physique.

So instead of giving you a laundry list of best practices, I managed to condense it to 4 straight-from-the-hip points. Frankly, I too get tired of it; you know what you need to do! Only 20% of people keep their New Years resolution. It may only be 20% but it’s not impossible. I know you can do it, get on top of your game and play it full out.

1. Keep a calendar – place it where you will see it every day. Start one week at a time. Most of us know what our schedule is like a week in advance. Schedule your workouts a week ahead. Every day that you complete your workout, mark it with a nice, big W! W for workout, winner, wow, whew, whatever you want it to mean. By the end of each month you’ll be happy to see all those W’s on your calendar. Remember you can make working out some serious fun!

2. Stop making a big deal out of exercise. Losing weight, eating well, exercising daily is a lifestyle change. You will have to cut down on surfing the web, or channel flipping, staying late at the office, or putting yourself last on the to-do list. Making this change is something that you must do. Your body is meant to last 100 years, so asking you to exercise 3 or 4 times per week for just 30-60 minutes – is it really a big deal?

3. Have faith. Many of us go all out for the first 2 weeks and then slowly our momentum starts to fade. Perhaps you didn’t realize just how de-conditioned you were, or how frustrating it is to last on the treadmill for 15 minutes, or how difficult it was to do 10 pushups – then you expected the weight to just start falling off! You must know that with every change you make, with every healthy bite and every drop of sweat, will come results. It only comes with consistence. Know in your heart that if you are consistently eating well and exercising you will lose weight. Stay with it, day after day - keep the faith.

4. Get support. The greatest athletes and leaders all have their support teams and coaches. Surround yourself with people who truly care about your success. Find a workout buddy, or join a class, or find a trainer whose personality and training style suits you and the things you like to do. As you go through the baked good section in the grocery store, phone a friend if you have to in order not to pick up those brownies or bag of chips. Put pictures up of your favorite athletes or fitness photos. Subscribe to your favorite health and fitness magazine, travel or outdoor magazine. Go online and get those daily fitness tips or newsletters. Believe that you are fit, strong, healthy – no matter what condition you are at this time. Get passionate about your health and about feeling good, know that you deserve to feel great and energetic.

The New Year to me is also about freshness and forgiveness. It’s the perfect time to let go and start fresh. There was a time when I thought I could never get back the weight I was in my early 20’s and that I could never feel toned again. But I kept at it, like a race horse, I put my blinders on and focused on the track, not looking back, now I can say that I am in the best shape of life and as each year passes, staying in shape is now something that’s simply, been resolved.

"Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them: A desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill."

Dr. OZ Seven Deadly Sins, do penance and you'll shave 10 years from your life!!

Dr. Oz, calls them 7 deadly sins, that are shaving years OFF your life.

Here's what they are and I've added some of my personal experience and expertise.

1. Skipping Stretching. This was a pleasant surprise to me, but not at all a shocker. I often start my day with about 10 minutes of meditative breathing (no - hitting the snooze button and snoozing doesn't count) I tend to be one to bound out of bed, once I finally roll out of it. But stretching first thing in the morning gets your blood flowing, your muscles prepared, and releases fluid into your perhaps stiff joints. Its the perfect start to your day, add some deep breathing exercises, your mind will quiet and prepare for your busy day.

2. Skipping Breakfast. This too is right up on my first things first list. Remember that your body has been fasting all night and he calls it "senses famine" meaning that your body will store fat and anything else it may have, when it feels like it won't be re-nourished. In the very least he says have a pure fruit smoothie. And don't forget to hand a fruit to that "slept-in" teen or kids of yours.

3. Being 10 minutes late for an appointment. This is always stressful, and stress is an internal killer! Be 5 minutes early and save yourself the stress. He had a model of a "stress" heart, it was hard and flabby. Your heart is a pliable, muscle, be kind to it and strengthen it.

4. Take a guess: its 3pm which is worse, a trip to the vending machine or sitting angrily at your desk? If you guess the vending machine you are right. I particularly liked the example he used as he displayed the digestive system. Chances are this trip will be one for junk food. If you have already eaten poorly by this time your digestive system is already being overworked along with your liver trying to detoxify you. He showed what looked like a sewage back up in your digestive organs, causing some serious belly bloating.

5. Its now 6pm and you're relaxing on the couch watching TV....yes deadly! Here you should be doing at least 30 minutes of exercise to keep your metabolism revved up.

6. Ignoring phone calls from your friends. Yes take that call, or write a short email, stay connected it can really be a lifeline. People are most happy when they are sociable.

7. Forgetting to plan bedtime. Yes, so good ole' mom was right all long when she made us go to bed at a certain every night. Try to keep the same routine even on the weekends. Plan to get yourself adequate rest, this when the body does most of its recovering and regrowth - besides you deserve it!

He said if you fall prey to these deadly sins you could be taking 10 years off your life!!

Personally I think it would make you FEEL 10 years younger - hey - that brings me back to my roaring 20's again!!

Get started on your New Year and your New Body today!

Make this the best year of your life.

Don't forget our "Tell 2 Friends Referral Program" get up to $50 cash or
